"(She) played so very beautifully, I was quite carried away"
- Endorsement by Lord Yehudi Menuhin
Dedicated to chamber music as a lifelong passion, cellist Miranda Harding is a versatile performer with wide experience, exploring a vast repertoire ranging from traditional mainstream works to new music and lesser-known gems. Recitals and chamber concerts have so far taken her to 17 countries - throughout Europe, North and South America, and Southeast Asia.
With roots in Britain and Malaysia, Miranda spent her early years in Singapore and Australia. Aged 10, she was awarded a place at the prestigious Yehudi Menuhin School of Music in England where she studied the cello with Melissa Phelps and composition with Malcolm Singer, and participated in masterclasses with William Pleeth and the Amadeus Quartet. Further studies led her to Germany, where her teachers were Karine Georgian at the Hochschule für Musik Detmold, and Johannes Goritzki at the Robert Schumann Hochschule in Düsseldorf.
Chamber music and ensembles:
Miranda is presently a member of the Copenhagen-based Amazone Quartet (www.amazonekvartetten.dk) scheduled to perform at Stockholm Concert Hall in 2024 with "Flowmatic Nights", a programme of newly commissioned music which was premiered at the Klang Festival in Copenhagen in 2023.
For six years, Miranda was engaged as full-time cellist of the Danish Chamber Players (Ensemble Storstrøm), with a focus on chamber music in different combinations of instruments. As a member of the ensemble, she performed extensively at major venues and festivals in Denmark and on Danish radio, and made numerous CD recordings. Activities also included premieres of new works, and collaborations with the Leipzig String Quartet, organist Naji Hakim and oboist Gordon Hunt.
As a member of the eclectic Danish ensemble "Ekkozone", she participated in a 2018 CD and vinyl recording of Steve Reich's Double Sextet. She was a member of the Elessar Piano Trio (London) with Ning Kam, violin, and Bobby Chen, piano, releasing the CD 'Acoustic Tango' of music by Astor Piazzolla. As a guest soloist with the Villa-Lobos Chamber Players of New York, Miranda played at numerous venues in New York, including Merkin Hall. She has appeared as a soloist at the Purcell Room on London's South Bank, and performed Brahms' Sextet in G with Lord Yehudi Menuhin at St. James' Palace in London.
Recitals, masterclasses and outreach work in Malaysia have been an ongoing project for over two decades, in collaboration with pianist and composer Ng Chong Lim. Miranda has also given masterclasses in England and Denmark. She has made a number of arrangements for instrumental ensembles.
Miranda plays a cello crafted by Auguste Sebastien Bernardel, Paris 1833.
